What is basic golf etiquette

Before you start to play any game, you want to make sure that you know the basic behind the game. Whether you’re a casual player or want to be a professional golf player, your journey begins at learning the basic golf etiquette. These golf etiquettes have been placed so that you do not trouble or cause inconvenience to other golfers or damage the huge property at any point. Think about it, do you really want to be the nosy parker winding up fellow golfers as they caddy around the golf course?

Having a good knowledge of basic golf etiquette can make you not only a good golfer but also save you from lots of embarrassment. Here are some basic dos and don’ts when you attend your regular golf training or visit the fancy golf course for your weekend getaway:

Do’s

  • Golf is a gentleman’s game and you must look like one. Adhere to golf clothing whenever you enter the course. There are several options to choose from, so that you are not under the gun. Take a look at our golf apparel here: https://www.asiansports.in/collections/apparels
  • Be there well in time. You will always be given your tee time and make sure to reach before the reporting time. You not only respect your game but also the other players.
  • After you are done, repair the course. Fix your ball marks, replace the divots and properly rake the bunkers.
  • Stand away from other players while they are taking their shots so as to not distract them.
  • If you are going with your friends, do not start celebrating after every win. Keep calm and respect the other players.
  • If you accidentally ever hit the ball towards someone or a group of people, immediately yell ‘FORE’. When you hear someone else yell ‘FORE’, immediately duck and cover your head. ‘Fore’ signals that a golf ball has been stricken and it is likely to hit and injure someone.
  • Always use a caddy. It is fine if you can’t find one, but if there is, use one!
  • Stay on the cart path. Look for pointers that signal the cart lane and drag your carts only through that area.
  • Follow the rules and regulations of the game at all times.

Don’ts

  • Do not ever walk on someone’s line. Here, ‘line’ basically refers to the distance between the ball and the hole that a player is likely to take a shot in-between. The point is that your footprint may cause an effect on the rolling of the golf ball.
  • Do not talk when a friend or a fellow player is about to hit their shot. Remember the mantra, the quieter you are, the higher you will be promoted amongst your peers.
  • Do not play unnecessarily slow and hold up other players behind you. Stop taking too many practice swings on the tee.
  • Do not drag your golf cart on the green as it may damage the fairways or the grass.
  • Don’t spend a lot of time looking for lost balls. 5 minutes is a good time limit to search for a lost ball.
  • Don’t chat too much when you are on the tee or green. You will distract yourselves, your friends and other people on the course.
  • Once you are done hitting your strike, move away and then mark your score card. Do not do this while you are still at the green. It is more annoying than you think.

These are some of the important golf etiquettes one needs to know before entering the golf course. This way, you will avoid irritating other players and possible saving yourselves from being banned from the course forever. These golf etiquettes may seem overboard at times, but once you keep them in mind, they tend to be really easy to follow. Learn the game well and most importantly, play fair.
